Ancient Roman Coin Pendant
Severus Alexander
222-235 A.D.
Coin Silver Denarius 18 mm
Setting 14k Yellow 25 mm x 31 mm including bail
Severus Alexander was barely a teenager when he was
awarded the title of Caesar, and just a year older
when he became emperor. He ruled wisely with the
help of his strict and ambitious mother, who was the
real power behind the throne. Severus Alexander was
welcomed as Augustus by the army and the people of
Rome, who felt that a return to the traditional
Roman ways was restored under his leadership, which
encouraged the arts and sciences as well as lowering
taxes. He was the last of the Severan Dynasty of
Roman emperors.
