Foxfire's Carat Cake May 31st 2008

May first, 2008 will mark twenty-three years of business for Foxfire Jewelers located in Woodinville. Washington. Today, they have made a name for themselves by creating jewelry on premises, in an artistic, custom studio setting.

But it was not always so... In 1978, the original Foxfire Jewelers was opened in Kirkland's Old Hospital building as a bead store, selling bead jewelry made by founder Michael Babinski and ethnic artifacts, After closing that store in 1981, Babinski worked for several fine jewelry stores to learn the trade and completed his education. When the jeweler which he then did some contract work for left the business, a still young Michael, with his wife Mary. found a tiny 300 square foot retail space in the small area of King County called Woodinville and opened their own store.

In those early days they designed some jewelry but also sold SEIKO watches, Black Hills Gold, and other manufactured jewelry. A year and a half later, Michael and Mary moved the store into the newly opened Woodinville Towne center.

The creative side grew , and in 1988 the couple took the plunge and eliminated other's jewelry from their stock. "After all, Jewelry had to be made somewhere, and some one had to do it..." recalls Babinski, "so why not put those workers under my own roof so I can control the quality and the creative process? In addition, we cut out the bureaucracy of the manufacturers and were more able to concentrate on the jewelry itself."

Today, Foxfire Jewelers makes virtually all of the jewelry they sell on the premises. "Except for the gold chains that are machine made, although we have on occasion made chains, too," Babinski says.
 
Foxfire Jewelers annual Carat Cake is where they bake beautiful gemstones into a cake and gave out complimentary pieces to customers and guests.
