This is a genuine Silver
Piece of Eight - 2 reales, minted in Potosi, Brazil in 1723. These
coins were minted at Spain's silver mines in the New World, then
transported overland to ships which carried them to Cuba for reshipment
to Spain in Treasure Galleons. Well, storms and pirates took their toll
and some coins never reached the mother country. Also, the coins were
used in Spanish territories on the mainland and in the Carribean, and
were in fact used as legal tender in the USA until 1857.
