Things Rich & Strange is now open in Depoe Bay, at 48 North Highway 101 (March 7th, 2009). The store features mystical, magical and unusual treasures from around the world such as Natural Crystals... Quartz, Lemurian, Amethyst cathedrals, Selenite, Apophylite, Citrine, and polished gemstones including Tektites, Pietersite, Agates, Lapis Lazuli, Aventurine, and many more. Gem Carvings of animals, dragons, buddhas, otters, seals, orcas, and goddesses round out the selection very nicely, plus there's massage wands, pyramids, skulls and crystal balls in the mix.

Other interesting items in store include 250+ million year old fossils; Trilobites (bug like fossils), Ammonites (spiral shell fossils) from tiny to hefty, orthoceras and 30+ million year old Amber with insects trapped inside. Jurassic park here we come!

There's also artist's works, like the delicately etched glass creations of Eugene's Jaguar art glass with fairies, grapes, ferns, and crabs, secret boxes by Heartwood with petroglyphs and nature scenes, and the mythical dragons of Larry Jeffers. Brightly colored batik flags by an Hawaiian artist hang overhead. Capes, wands topped with gems and crystals, hats, and Wizard staffs await to provide your magical adornment.

The shop has a nice selection of sterling silver Celtic and World jewelry, Pentagrams, Celtic Crosses, Faeries, Dragons, Pirate stuff, Om pendants, ammonite jewelry, a Dzi bead pendant, but what really sets Things Rich & Strange apart is the jewelry of store owner Michael Babinski.

Babinski's been making original design jewelry for over 30 years, working in 18 Karat and 14 Karat gold, Platinum and Sterling Silver. He bends and forms the precious metals into intricate designs and clean simple forms, carves wax models and casts them, and adds decorative designs with delicate hand engraving. When more detail and precision are called for, he uses computer assisted design to build 3-D models of the jewelry, which are milled in wax and then cast, opening up limitless design possibilities.

His wife Mary, keeps up the business end of things, doing the books, paying the bills, payroll,  and managing the essentials of being an entrepreneur. For the past 24 years, they have owned Foxfire Jewelers, in Woodinville, Washington (a small town near Seattle), creating custom jewelry with the assistance of a small but very
talented staff. Their lifelong love of the Coast dictated that they eventually found a home here as well, and a store was not too long in coming. The motto of the new store is the well known, but in this case very sincere “Follow your Bliss.”

Things Rich & Strange is a division of Foxfire Jewelers (since 1985)
